The Walk of Fame
By Chris Murphy
Back in 2012, when I approached George Lucas about getting involved in the Modesto Historic Cruise Route, I explained that our mission was simply to tell the stories behind the story that he told. He liked the idea and made a video that you can view at www.modestocruiseroute.com<www.modestocruiseroute.com> and really set the stage for what cruising was and why he made American Graffiti.
Our efforts here in Modesto USA are to share the people and the places that were the inspiration for Lucas’ milestone film that has made Modesto USA a popular part of pop culture. If you haven’t already, take time and walk the Historic Cruise Route of 10th and 11th Streets and watch videos from the Legends of the Cruise and see our Walk of Fame markers beginning and ending 10th Street Plaza. Modesto is a cool city with so many great stories and legends.
Walk With the Legends
The spirit of “American Graffiti” endures today on 10th & 11th Streets in Downtown Modesto on the Historic Cruise Route, where the people of the true cruising route inspired George Lucas’ film. People across America and all over the world are invited to have a rockin’ good time as the “Walk of Fame” Class of ’21 is unveiled on the Modesto Historic Graffiti Cruise Route on Wednesday, August 19th, on 10th Street between J and K Streets in conjunction with the Mid Valley Chevy Club’s Park ‘n Shine that hosts approximately 300 classic cars and hot rods.
The Modesto Historic Graffiti Cruise Route Walk of Fame sidewalk markers celebrate the Legends of the Cruise that made it all happen. They are the cruisers, the racers, the musicians, the students, the DJs and the dreamers that brought Modestocana to life then and now.
Six local legends will be added to the Legends of the Cruise Walk of Fame:
