The Police –Zenyatta Mondatta
Nautilus Super Disc Half Speed Mastered LP.
Nautilus Super Disc, HSM. High Technology, Analog recording. The Process gives a much better frequency response, wider dynamic range and considerably less distortion. Less hiss and pops on play back is also a benefit of the process. As far as I know only 56 recordings were released as Super Disc.
Listening to Zenyatta Mondatta or any record in this format I is night and day over the traditional release. Making even inexpensive turntables sound great and on a good system simply amazing.
Zenyatta Mondatta was the third album released by the Police, still incorporating elements of Punk and featured their stripped down sound of just Bass, Guitar and Drums. Released in 1980 and spawning the hit singles “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” and “De Do Do Do De Da Da Da.” The album reached #1 in the UK and spent 3 years in the US charts peaking at #5.
I had tickets to see the Police on the Ghost in the Machine but couldn’t go. Being 14 years old my mother was not hip on my staying in LA and taking the bus up to Modesto. I did eventually see them on the reunion tour in 2007.
Check out some notable covers songs from Zenyatta Mondatta, AFI-“Man in a Suit Case”, Primus-“Behind My Camel” and Pearl Jam-“Driven to Tears.”
